Strong, powerful, charismatic, and beautiful, the lion is the true icon of Africa’s Big Five.
You just don’t get tired of watching lions no matter how many times you see them during your game drive.
There is always a sigh of relieve after spotting them, as if from that moment on, your safari can bring your attention also other, “insignificant” wildlife…
Lions leave in pride, in which the lionesses normally stalk the prey as they feed on the abundant grass. Prides rest in the shade and cubs play under the watchful eye of their mothers as males fight for the crown.
After sunset the action normally begins when the pride leaves the comfort of the bushes and heads out to look for potential prey.
When the sun rises again, they will usually be guarding their nightly kill, while taking turns in enjoying their labor.
Mostly, our game drives begin at 6 am to increase the chances to see the lions still active, before they break off to the shade.
Some parks allow a night game drive, where you can observe this nocturnal king of beasts follow its prey.
You can see lions in all of our safari destinations in Africa, and also in India, where you can observe the Asiatic lions in Gir National Park.
